USIIC Ahemedabad Chapter launchedUS-India Importers’ Council (USIIC) launched Ahmedabad chapter recently on the sidelines of vibrant Gujarat Summit. Mr Arun Kumar, Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service and Assistant Secretary for Global Markets, U.S. Department of Commerce-International Trade administration was present during the launch. The USIIC aims to be the leading organization assisting government bodies, industry associations, corporates, agents, Indian importers, and American companies in connection to decision makers in Government & private sector in India and vice versa.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kumar said that both governments are working overtime to make the President Obama and PM Narendra Modi meeting on 26 January 2015, a grand success in terms of mutual cooperation in fileds of Defense, smart cities, environment, clean technology.
Mr. Kumar leads the trade and investment promotion efforts for the US Government. With offices in over 100 US cities and in 72 world markets, including Ahmedabad in India, he also serves as the International Trade Administration’s lead official advocating for better market access for US exporters.
India-US relations have become increasingly broad based covering cooperation in areas such as trade and economic, defense and security, education, science and technology, high-technology, civil nuclear energy, space technology and applications, clean energy, environment and health.
During meetings between President Obama & PM Narendra Modi in USA, they both had discussed about smart cities, Make in India, skill development & clean India. People to people interactions provide further vitality and strength to the bilateral relationship. There have been regular contacts at political and official levels and wide-ranging dialogue architecture on bilateral, regional and global issues has been put in place.
Other delegates from US government present at the launch included Holly Vineyard, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia – U.S. Department of Commerce – International Trade Administration; Camille Richardson , Principal Commercial Officer; Martin Claessens, Commercial Officer; Atman Trivedi , Chief of Staff and Special Adviser, ISN Bureau and Josh Leibowitz, International Trade Specialist.

The USIIC have planned a series of event in Gujarat including round table discussion on “Nuts & Bolts of Smart Cities plan” between Indian companies & Ministry of Urban Development, GOI(28 January 2015); Participation in Vibrant Kutch 2015 (27, 28 February & 1 March 2015); Trade & Investment delegation from Gujarat to USA (20 to 30 April 2015) and trade delegation to World Gujarati Conference in Los Angeles, USA (30, 31 October, 1 & 2 November 2015).
